“Steak” Brownies

“Steak” Brownies

In just a few short days we will be celebrating all of the fathers, father figures, and mentors in our lives. They have made such a big impact on us and our children so we wanted to make them a little treat to show them our appreciation.

Growing up, it was hard for us to truly appreciate what our father meant to us. It was only when we were older that we learn everything he did to protect us growing up. He is to this day, still the strongest and most dedicated man we’ve ever met. The Bible says that if a righteous man walks with integrity, his children will be blessed and we can definitely attest to that Proverb.

We are doubly blessed because our husbands are excellent fathers as well. They have had to put up with the two of us being nearly inseparable. We warned them before marriage that we were extraordinarily close and they chose to marry us anyways. Now we live next door and eat dinner together almost every single night. My husband is extremely thoughtful and silly and is my kids favorite playmate. He has a HUGE sweet tooth so our treat will hopefully allow him to indulge a little bit.

“Steak” Brownies

This father’s day, we decided to combine two of our husband’s favorite things to eat (steak and brownies) into one pretty cool dish. This father’s day treat comes from sheknows.com. Sandra Denneler is the creative chef behind this fun dish. Included on the website is a free PDF printable of the “well done” and “rare” steak markers. Besides the brownies, we also decided to include a homemade BBQ apron as a DIY present from the kids.

First we prepare 2 boxes of brownie mix per the instructions on the box. For the well done steak, that’s all you need to do. For the rare steak, add a softened 8 oz. box of cream cheese into the batter and enough red food coloring to your desired color then mix until well combined. Bake for about 45-50 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. The red velvet brownie will need a few more minutes.

Cut the brownies into the shape of T-bone steaks using a template.

Place the brownies on a cooling rack and pour melted chocolate over the entire surface. Use a butter knife or spatula to even out the chocolate. Then let the chocolate set.

Using a skewer, create indentations in the chocolate to represent grill marks. Then use a brush and paint the grill marks black.

Pipe some peanut butter on the brownies in the shape of the bone on a T-bone steak. Finally, sprinkle crush Oreos and rice crispy cereal on top.

Insert steak markers into the appropriate brownie and voila! A delicious looking “steak” brownie for the special fathers in your life. After slicing into the brownie, they will be able to see what looks like a well done and rare steak. Our husbands enjoyed this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

We hope you will make some wonderful memories with the father’s in your life this father’s day.
